See the Universe Through Different Eyes
Deep Sky Eye Observatory sits inside North America’s only Starlight Tourist Destination, where some of the darkest skies on the continent have attracted the most unlikely astronomer you’ll ever meet.
Meet Tim
Tim Doucette has a visual impairment, but that didn’t stop him from becoming one of Nova Scotia’s most celebrated astronomers, astrophotographers and guides. In fact, it’s what drives him. Come and hear why he sees the night sky like no one else.
North America’s First Certified Starlight Tourist Destination
South West Nova Scotia is recognized by the international Starlight Foundation of Spain, as the only Starlight Tourist Destination and Reserve in North America.
The skies here are scientifically verified to be among the darkest and most pristine in North America. Low light pollution. Little air pollution. Just you, a telescope the size of a person, and billions of years of history blazing overhead.

What Guests Are Saying
Beyond the Night Sky — Your Full Getaway
Your adventure doesn't end at sunrise. The Quinan River runs right through the property — kayaks are available for guests to explore at their leisure. The surrounding region is home to 25+ bird species spotted right from the cabin deck. The Belleville Rail Trail is 15 minutes away for walking and cycling.
When the family is ready for a break between sky sessions, the campground has plenty to keep everyone entertained — ring toss, lawn darts, axe throwing, and classic arcade coin machines (quarters and loonies). As night falls, you can gather with other guests around the fire pit and roast marshmallows under a sky filled with stars.
Deep Sky Eye is a full two-day getaway, not just a night-time event.
