This is my first attempt to image with my new (used) Orion ED80 scope. I'm quite impressed for a fist shot. This image was taken from my backyard as you can see the there is some light pollution. Nothing like the original RAW frame below.


This image was processed using IRIS and Paint Shop Pro. Dark frames and flats were used.

Description

This is globular cluster M15. It's one of the only globular clusters that contain a planetary nebula. In this exposure it's not visible. I plan to try again later using a narrowband or OIII filter.

Description

The Owl cluster is an open star cluster located in the constellation of Cassiopeia. It is made up of about 100 stars. The bright star Phi Casseopeiae is actually not part of the cluster. This cluster is sometimes called 'The E.T Cluster'. If you use your imagination a bit it looks like E.T. The two bright stars are the eyes, rows of stars make up the arms and legs and the middle stars make up the body.

Description

The Hercules cluster is one of the most beautiful globular clusters in the night sky and also my favorite. It can be seen with a small telescope. A larger apeture telescope will reveal lots of central stars. I am really suprised how much image noise can be removed my subtracting a few dark frames.
