Start the experience in the observatory's presentation room to learn about our Solar System. We'll answer questions such as: Why is the Moon important to us? The Moon's role in our culture (Acadian and Mi'Kmaq). We'll explore the planets and discover the challenges we would face if humanity were ever have to relocate.
Outside under the beauty of the Moon light you will learn the basics of navigating the night sky using points of reference such as Polaris (North Star), and various constellations. Learn about the planets and how to find them. It will surely spark your interest!
Then it's back to the observatory where you will discover the beauty of the Lunar features, the rings of Saturn, & the Moons of Jupiter (NOTE: The planets are visible at different times of the year, as such not all may be visible during your visit).
We encourage everyone to bring their cameras and cellphones. The opportunity ‘may’ arise that will allow you to take images of the Moon and planets through the telescope. In order to speed up the process of taking photographs, we ask that you familiarize yourself with a few basic features of your phone or camera.
Know how to turn down the brightness of the display
Know how to turn off the flash of your device.
Know how to switch between 'Photo' mode (taking pictures) and 'Video' mode (record a movie).
If you are using a DSLR camera or compact camera you will want to familiarize yourself with it's specific features - M (manual mode) and how to focus to infinity.
