Cables & Adapters

Here is a list of the cables and adapters I currently use in my system. These can be build with a modest amount of soldering skills. My goal was to convert all of my devices into USB, plug all lines into a USB hub and have a single USB line to my PC.

AS-GT PC Control Cable

In order to control the AS-GT mount with PC you will need to buy or build a PC control cable. The cable has a RJ-22 connector on one end that connects to the bottom of the NextStar hand controller and has a DB-9 femal connector on the other end to connect to the serial port on a PC. This allows the mount to be controlled by any ASCOM compliant software such as GuideDog and Starry Night Pro.

I purchased a coiled telephone handset cord at the local dollar store and cut off one end to attach the DB-5 female connector. Of course you will need to have a housing for the DB-9 (not shown here). If you plan to connect this cable to a PDA sync cable you will need a male DB-9 instead of a female and pins 2 and 3 will need to be reversed.

If you would like a more detailed explination have a look at the "NexStar Resource Site", an excellent site with lots of information.
